Prattville – Saturday was a beautiful sunny day as thousands of spectators lined the streets of downtown to catch beads, candy, t-shirts, and moon pies during the 5th annual Prattville Mardi Gras parade.
This years parade theme was “I love the 80s,” so Prattville’s Mayor Gray Price, former Prattville mayor in the 1980s, served as the Grand Marshal.
The parade started at 3:00 p.m., but the festivities began much earlier as vendors providing refreshments organized around noon at the Partners in Pediatrics parking lot.
The Swing ‘n Dixie, a Dixieland jazz band, provided entertainment before and during the parade.
Dozens of floats and vehicles passed through downtown for about an hour. Mardi Gras hats and masks were worn and even Congressman Bobby Bright wore a necklace of huge purple and green beads.
Young and old alike and even the canine species enjoyed the celebration during the perfect 70 degree weather.
