Montgomery, AL – According to Major Huey Thornton, spokesman for the Montgomery Police Department, on Saturday, January 9, at 11:29 PM, Michael Montgomery, age 38 of Coosada and James Poole, age 17 of Montgomery, were shot to death in the parking lot of Club O at 1355 E. Boulevard.

Also injured in that incident was Kerry Chappell, age 30 of Montgomery, who was shot in the back and shoulder, Thornton said.

Thornton further stated that Alvin Shackelford, age 21, of Montgomery, the brother of victim James Poole, was being developed as a suspect in the shootings.

On Thursday, January 14, a warrant was secured charging Shackelford with Assault 2nd Degree in the shooting of Chappell, and he is the primary suspect in the murders of both Montgomery and Poole, police said.

According to the police, Shackelford was interviewed and subsequently charged with two counts of murder, then was placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $165,000 bond.

At this point, the motive may have stemmed from a dispute that started in the line to gain entry into the club, said Thornton.
