Montgomery, AL – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) along with the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on Tuesday, June 23, beginning at noon, at the Parks and Recreation Department, 1309 Upper Kingston Road.

The hours of operation will be from noon to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, and from Wednesday, June 24 through Saturday, June 27, the center will be open from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM.

The purpose of the DRC is to assist those that were affected by the May 6-8 storms and flooding. People are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting the DRC. This can be done via the internet at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling (800) 621-FEMA (3362), (TTY) (800) 462-7585 for the hearing-or speech-impaired. Toll-free numbers are available seven days a week, 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

It is not necessary to visit a DRC if you have already registered with FEMA, however, the centers are provided for those who want to have personal contact with a disaster recovery specialist.

Recovery specialists can supply contacts for other programs that may be available for assistance, check the status of your claim, answer questions about the recovery status, or review information FEMA needs to process an individual’s claim.

Customer Service Representatives from the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be on site to field questions about their own low-interest disaster loan program for homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations. They will also aid in the completion of SBA disaster loan applications. The purpose of the SBA loans would be to replace or repair real estate and/or personal property damaged by the storms during May 6-8.

Anyone who cannot visit a DRC should call the SBA Customer Service Center from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday thru Friday, toll-free at (800) 659-2955. For information and assistance, also visit the SBA website at www.sba.gov/services
