Prattville – Prattville residents will have to wait at least eight more months to shop in the new CVS/pharmacy on Main Street. CVS corporate spokesperson, Mike Deangelis, told us today, the store will not officially open until early next year, possibly in January of 2010.

“The old store will continue to be operational until that time.”

No reason for the opening delay was given.

The freestanding 13,000 square foot store will be located on a newly constructed out lot of the Pratt Plaza Shopping Center. The new CVS will replace the one currently located in the same center. Construction on the store began last January and ended earlier this month.

The first CVS store, selling health and beauty products, was founded in Lowell, Massachusetts, by brothers Stanley and Sidney Goldstein and partner Ralph Hoagland. CVS stands for Consumer Value Stores. The CVS Corporation is located in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

The Prattville area currently has 2 CVS locations.
