Prattville – Mayor Jim Byard Jr., the Council members, City Department Heads, and some city employees wore pink gloves Tuesday night to support breast cancer awareness and the upcoming Walk of Life.
Byard further explained the purpose of wearing latex mitts during the Council meeting.
“The Joy to Life group we joined last October when we turned our fountain pink, works for breast cancer awareness and treatment, and they are having a Walk of Life in Montgomery on April 17,” he said.
“They are trying to have the longest pink ribbon in America with everyone wearing pink gloves and are also putting together a video of various folks around the River Region working in their pink gloves,” continued the mayor.
Joy and Richard Blondheim, founders of the Joy to Life Foundation, a non-profit organization providing free mammograms for medically underserved women under fifty years of age in many Alabama counties, attended Tuesday night’s meeting,
The Blondheims dedicate their time and efforts to women who are fighting to win the battle against breast cancer. The Walk of Life is the major fundraiser for the Joy to Life Foundation and this is the ninth year of the event.
“We’ve registered almost two thousand and we expect four thousand to join the walk,” Joy Blondheim said. “We have a lot of people come down from Prattville for the walk, so Mayor Byard is so sweet to do this tonight.”
