Prattville – Mayor Jim Byard Jr. accepted a challenge from Madisonville, Kentucky Mayor Will Cox concerning 2010 Census participation- highest percentage in their prospective cities wins.

If the Fountain City loses the bet, Byard will be forced to wear a University of Kentucky sweatshirt to a City Council meeting, but if Prattville wins, Cox dons a Bama sweatshirt to a Council session.

There’s been some good-natured “tweeting” between the two elected officials. Earlier today Cox announced on Twitter that Madisonville was 6 percentage points ahead of Prattville. He also stated that he was allergic to Tennessee Orange, hence the wager with an Alabama mayor.

Byard had a few remarks to make concerning the challenge.

“I, too, am allergic to Tennessee Orange,” he said. “Of course, I pull for my alma mater, Troy University, and as far as I know I have no allergies relating to UK Blue, however I do not expect to be wearing it anytime soon.”

“Our citizens are not accustomed to losing so I hope the challenge will spur additional participation in the 2010 Census,” continued Byard.

As of April 1, Prattville has 58% Census forms returned and Madisonville weighs in with 64%.
