Prattville – A magician, live entertainment, a chocolate fountain with strawberries for dipping, a caricaturist, raffles, and much more were featured in the newly remodeled Prattville Winn Dixie on Friday to celebrate the store’s remodeling and department renovations.
Customers were treated to the jazz sounds of Tapestry, a band from Montgomery, and the quick hands of magician Gary Ledbetter, while they visited expanded departments including dairy, meat, and seafood, an expanded wine selection and a remodeled pharmacy.
Eight Prattville High School football players greeted ladies at the entrance and presented each of them with a long-stemmed red rose. The young men were chosen to participate in the festivities because a local organization becomes involved in every grand opening, according to Renee West, PR Field Account Manager.
“We have what we call a Youth at Play program and through that program, donations can be made to the organization,” said West. “Donny Johnson, the store manager, chose the Prattville Lions to be the local group involved in this event.”
Coach Jamey Dubose added that his team was glad to show support for Winn Dixie.
“Winn Dixie has been a supporter of Prattville football, so we’re just here to support them,” he said. “We want to teach our kids responsibility in the community.”
“We’re proud of Prattville, not just Prattville football, and as the city has supported us, we’d like to support them.”
Other expanded or remodeled store departments are the bakery with a fresh muffin cart, bread warmer and specialty dessert case; a new wood-burning rotisserie, wing bar, and custom submarine shop in the deli; a new floral section with a wide variety of blooming plants and cut-flower arrangements, and a larger selection of organic foods.
There is a new store entrance and all new full-service checkout aisles.
“We are just glad to be here to bring all of our offerings, and to serve the community,” said store manager Johnson.
Winn Dixie was founded in 1925 and the company currently operates 515 retail grocery locations, including more than 400 in-store pharmacies, in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, and Mississippi.
