Prattville – The City of Prattville will be offering several free events over the summer months of interest to the entire family. “Prattville’s Free Family Fun Summer” will include movies, parades, and a street party.

“This summer’s Free Family Fun events are a great way for citizens to connect with family and friends. The free admission is great during these tough economic times, said Mayor Jim Byard, Jr. We’re pleased to offer outdoor movies during the month of June, our Independence Day Celebration in July, and conclude with our Back to School Concert featuring the Sweet Young ‘uns in August.”

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to the next Free Movie under the Stars, held at the Cooters Pond Park on Friday, June 12. The movie, shown on a 30 ft. inflatable movie screen, is Paul Blart: Mall Cop. The film centers around a mild-mannered security guard who has to fight off a gang of organized crooks who have overtaken the mall.

On June 26, the last Friday of the month, The Tale of Despereaux will be shown at the park. This is an animated film that tells the story of three unlikely heroes – a misfit mouse who prefers reading books to eating them, an unhappy rat who schemes to leave the darkness of the dungeon, and a bumbling servant girl with cauliflower ears. Their fates are intertwined with that of the castle’s princess.

Admission is free to the movies at Cooters Pond Park. They begin at dark and pizza, popcorn, and snow cones will be available for purchase.

“Happy Birthday America” is the theme of this year’s annual 4th of July Parade and float participants are encouraged to decorate their entries in that motif. The parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Autauga County Courthouse and will end at Stanley-Jensen Stadium. Since this is a family fun event, children on bikes, tricycles, and scooters are also invited to participate. There is no registration fee to enter.

Also on July 4th, the Annual Lion’s Club Bar-B-Q and Camp Stew Sale will take place at Pratt Park at 10:00 a.m., as well as the annual “Cardboard Boat Races,” at the city pool. Pre-registration is required and the entry fee is $5.00. For more information, call Leisure Services at (334) 361-3640.
