Montgomery, AL – Serving the Montgomery area for over twenty-nine years is Sam’s Bar-B-Q, located at 3510 Atlanta Highway in the capital city. And the one thing that definitely has not changed in all of that time is their delicious real-pit barbecue.

The distinctive hickory aroma fills the restaurant as you enter and to your right you can actually see the pork cooking on the pit.

The menu consists of chopped pork barbecue, sausage, hot dogs, meaty beans, fresh cole slaw, French fries, bread, and Sam’s special sauce. A plate with either pork or sausage (or a combination) comes with French fries, meaty beans, and fresh cole slaw. I’m a fan of the cole slaw because it is not marinating in mayonnaise and the beans cooked with pork are simply the best anywhere around.

Sam’s original dark sauce is a perfect blend of seasonings, with just the right amount of “spice” to give it that extra tangy kick.

Family packs are available to feed a crowd of 4-6 and they include a pound of chopped pork, a pint of Sam’s special sauce, a quart of beans, and a quart of slaw. During football season it is advisable to call ahead for a to-go order.

Sam’s employees are friendly and the service is quick and proficient. Prices are reasonable, and with the meat and three heaping sides, you probably will not leave hungry!

The line forms at the door most days before the place opens at 11:00 and that is a telltale sign that this barbecue is well worth the wait! As a matter of fact, Sam’s slogan sums it up; “Nothing fancy – just great BBQ!” I personally rate Sam’s a perfect five sausages.

Sam’s is open Monday-Thursday 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM; Friday-Saturday 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and closed on Sundays. Order up a great meal at (334) 279-0008.
