Montgomery, AL – The popular “Movies Monday” series began tonight in downtown Montgomery in the train shed, with a showing of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa at 8:00 PM. The event was moved from the amphitheater area because of inclement weather. Rain has been a factor in the capital city since Sunday.

The weather was not a deterrent, however, as a crowd of about 200 people showed up to enjoy the free screening. Full concessions were available to the moviegoers. Branch Kloess, Director of Riverfront Facilities, was on hand to oversee the event. “I thought the weather would stop some folks from coming, but I’m glad to see that we have a good turnout. This has always been a popular event,” Kloess said.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a sequel to 2005’s Madagascar, in which New York zoo animals Alex the Lion, Marly the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, and Gloria the Hippo, still stranded on Madagascar, start to leave the island.

“Movies Monday” is sponsored by the City of Montgomery. Other movies in the series include Inkheart (July 13), Hotel for Dogs (July 20), and Bride Wars (July 27).
