The Our Prattville Pet of the Week is Cheesecake, a spayed five-year-old female Terrier mix. This beautiful, playful, sweet pup was rescued in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina by someone who was living in New Orleans at the time of the disaster.
Sadly, her owner can no longer care for her, but she is winning hearts at the shelter and is described as being very good with children and extremely well behaved.
Cheesecake is one of the many adult dogs available for adoption at the shelter. Naturally, puppies go much quicker than older dogs because they are cute and cuddly or someone is looking to raise a young animal and train them at an early age.
There are benefits to adopting an older animal. If there are any behavioral issues, they’re already known so that the potential owner can be aware of them. And as far as size goes, what you see is what you get.
Older dogs don’t require as much supervision as a younger one, are usually calmer, and are already trained and housebroken.
Perhaps an adult dog is more of a perfect fit for you. Cheesecake is one of those choices and I know she’ll be grateful for a new home!
