Montgomery, AL – Sunday was all about the kids at Riverwalk Stadium in beautiful downtown Montgomery. It was Kids Day, children 12 and under got treated to free food, various fun games, and arts and crafts. After the game ended tonight, they were even allowed to run the bases like a real pro ballplayer.
The Montgomery Biscuits, however, were not so lucky, dropping the series finale 6-1 to the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Starting Diamond Jaxx pitcher Nick Hill (3-3) cruised to the victory shutting out the Biscuits for six innings to register the win, allowing only two hits and striking out five.
Biscuits starter Brandon Mann (5-6) was the hard luck loser as he pitched well for six innings. He walked four; struck out a season-high seven while allowing two earned runs.
Ricky Orta pitched the final three innings for the Diamond Jaxx notching the save, his second of the season.
John and Heather Killough, of Montgomery, brought their daughter, Georgeann, and her cousin Brody Jordan to Sunday night’s matchup. Both children are four years old. “It’s Georgeann’s first time at a game,” Mrs. Killough said. “But, John and I have been several times.”
“I think that they may like running the bases after the game better than the game itself,” stated Mr. Killough. “Brody may like it a little more, though, because he is playing T-ball now.”
“We enjoy coming out to the stadium and it is just so great for the city,” Mr. Killough added.
The Biscuits took the series, but the Diamond Jaxx won the season-series, going 8-7 against Montgomery on the year.
The team will enjoy an off day on Monday, before opening a five-day, five-game series on the road against the Birmingham Barons Tuesday night. Game one of the series is slated to begin at 7:05 PM at Regions Park in Hoover, Alabama.
