Mayor Jim Byard, Jr. has joined the approximately six million other users in becoming a member of Twitter. Twitter is a social networking service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate with each other, using text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. User updates (known as tweets) are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them.
Senders can use applications such as Tweetdeck, Tweetie, Twitterific, and Feedalizr to send and receive updates via the Twitter website or through SMS or RSS (receive only). The service is free to use over the internet, but using SMS may incur phone services provider fees.
The mayor wishes to inform and engage the citizens of Prattville via Twitter and to talk about the workings of their government. “Keeping in touch with residents has always been a priority for me, and I am glad to add another communication tool,” Mayor Byard said.
Joining Twitter is as simple as filling out the registration form with your name, user name, password, and email. You may then search for some friends and follow them or fill out your profile.
Twitter is available on Our Prattville if you are a registered user of the site and a member of Twitter. Go to “your account,” then click on the edit tab; click on Twitter accounts, enter your user name and password, and hit the “add account” button.
